Nuances in Fragrance: Warm and Cold Scents

Written by Isabel Finston

Scent, it’s hot, then it’s cold… Like all things sensorily, scent (and how we perceive it) is subjective—it can vary by person, context, and place. While olfactive sensitivity differs from person to person, there is perhaps an even greater diversity in how people describe scent! Learning common fragrance descriptors makes you more likely to find a scent you love!

Warm Scents:

Vanilla, Tobacco, Cinnamon, Cedarwood, Amber, Musk, Clove, Leather, Incense, and Patchouli can be categorized as warm notes (many of which have a spicier nuance!) Looking for a sizzling scent to cuddle up with in the colder months? Experience Riley with Agarwood and Chai! Cheerful notes of Sandalwood, fluffy Vanilla, toasty Hazelnut, and mellow Musk meld with indulgent Agarwood and sparkling Chai spices!

Cold Scents:

Mint, Juniper, Iris, Basil, Eucalyptus, Salt, Elemi, Violet, Anise, and Aquatic notes are often described as having a colder (occasionally metallic) nuance. Want to discover a truly chilly scent? Explore Cam with Iris and Cashmere! Notes of refreshing Fig, dry Sandalwood, watery Violet Leaves, and zesty Elemi blend with perfectly icy Iris and calming Cashmere to create a comfortingly cool profile!
