No, Coffee Beans Don’t Reset Your Palate

Written by Olivia Olsen
We get it - fragrance fatigue is real. With our Scent-ologists spritzing and spraying all day long, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the different aromas in our scent studios. Have you noticed something is missing? That’s right — we don’t keep coffee beans in our stores.
Do Coffee Beans Reset Your Nose?
Coffee beans have always been known to “reset” your sense of smell and act as a staple in fragrance shops. The reality is, this idea is more psychological than it is rooted in biology. Sniffing coffee beans doesn’t reset your olfactory receptors, they simply add another strong fragrance into the mix.
What is Nose Blindness?
Nose blindness, also known as olfactory fatigue or olfactory adaptation, happens when your nose gets overstimulated. It’s totally normal; your nose is adjusting to the environment and works just fine. Even our Scent-ologists are nose blind! Fortunately, they’re adapted enough to help you find your signature scent with ease and can smell specific notes on our blends.
The Best Way to Avoid Nose Blindness
Instead of coffee beans, we recommend smelling something neutral — like you. Think your shirt sleeve, unscented skin, bags and more. Pacing yourself is also helpful, too. Slowing down as you smell through our core scents and curated blends refreshes your nose with sharper senses.
If you’re overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to step outside! Heading outside helps you smell a more accurate fragrance, which is why it’s an important part of our customization experience. We want to ensure you leave with a scent you love!
